Here's how coaching can help:
First, you have to be honest with yourself about what is and isn't working in your life. Coaching is a relationship that can inspire you to look deep within to discover your most important dreams, values and goals. A professional coach specializes not only in helping you to clarify what is important, but to set a purposeful path, with strategies tailored to your own personal style.
Coaching is a partnership focused solely on you and your success. Every successful athlete and performer works with a coach. Your personal coach will help you discover your own wisdom, and create awareness about what truly matters to you. You will get valuable feedback so that you can see your life from a totally different perspective. Furthermore, your coach will help you stay focused, and on track, so that you do not lose sight of your agenda.
The coaching experience will be customized to fit with your goals and lifestyle. You and your coach will work collaboratively to bring out your very best assets and to establish long-lasting changes.
Different clients need different approaches. The LifeSmarts Coaching programs have built-in flexibility to maximize results and can be modified to fit your lifestyle and budget.
Although the appointments can be held in person, more often, coaching occurs by telephone. This happens to be a highly effective means of working and the appointments can be scheduled conveniently from your home or office.
How to decide whether to choose coaching or psychotherapy:
Coaching does not take the place of psychotherapy, nor is it appropriate for everyone. I have been a psychotherapist for over thirty years. Throughout my professional life I have regularly examined which interventions have been most effective and meaningful for my clients. For those individuals who have been through deeply disturbing or traumatic experiences, or who find that the past keeps getting in their way, I believe that psychotherapy would be the more appropriate choice. If there is the need to look backwards to understand what is happening today, again, counseling might be more helpful.
While I am wholly committed to the process of psychotherapy, I have discovered that the field of coaching can be hugely beneficial for a select group of individuals who are highly motivated to achieve their own specified goals. Coaching is about the present and focused on the future. The work is very targeted to address the client's stated needs. The coach helps the client to develop the skills and to stay on track to bring about the desired changes.
Choosing the right coach:
It is my belief that it is important to choose a coach with whom you can form a strong rapport. To be effective, a coaching relationship needs to be completely professional, and a setting that fosters trust and openness. Before you commit to a coaching contract, I would encourage you to speak to the coach at length to determine if the relationship feels comfortable. Make sure that you believe that this person understands you and is capable of helping you achieve your goals.
With this premise in mind, I invite you to set up a telephone appointment to determine if coaching is right for you. The initial call is completely confidential and there will be no charge. There is no obligation to continue if you do not wish to.
